java history
hello my name is anmol kumar, the moment i started doing my programming on java, at the back of my mind i always wondered how it all started, who started it and how its been going since. so i digged in a little into java history and wanted to share a bit of little history of java the object oriented programing language.

gosling Mike Sheridan, and patrick started the Java language work in June 1991. in early stage Java was actually made for interactive tv, but it was quite advanced for the digital cable television industry for the time. The language was initially called Oak from an Oak tree that was outside Gosling's office. After the project was named Green and then was finally renamed as Java, from the java coffee house. Gosling designed Java with C/C++ style syntax so that system and application programmers would find it familiar.
In 1996 Sun Micro systems estricated the first public implementation as Java 1.0. It promised Write Once, Run Anywhere function. pretty secure and configurable, it allowed all network- and file-access restrictions. Soon many Major web browsers icluded the ability to run Java applets in web pages, and Java quickly became popular. Arthur van hoffs rewrote Java 1.0 compiler to comply strictly with the Java 1.0 language specification. With the advent of Java 2, new versions had multiple configurations built for different types of platforms. J2EE added technologies for enterprise applications typically run in server environments, while J2ME featured APIs optimized for mobile applications. The desktop version was renamed J2SE. In 2006, for marketing purposes, Sun renamed new J2 versions as Java EE, Java ME, and Java SE, respectively.

from the program. Java still stays a de facto standards, controlled through the JAVA COMMUNITY PROCESS. At one time, the enterprise sun made most of its Java implementations available free of cost. Sun generated revenue from Java through the selling of licenses for specialized products such as the Java Enterprise System.
On November 13, 2006, Sun released much of its Java virtual machine (JVM) as free and open source software (FOSS), under the terms of the GNU General public licence. On May 8, 2007, Sun finished the process, making all of its JVM's core code available under free sofware/open-source distribution terms, aside from a small portion of code to which Sun did not hold the copyright.
Sun microsystem's vice-president Mr Rich said that Sun's basic role to Java was as an evangelist. Following Oracle corporation's accession of Sun Microsystems in 2009–2010, Oracle has described itself as the attendant of Java technology with a persistent commitment to adopting a society of participation. This did not stop Oracle from filing a lawsuit against Google shortly after that for using Java inside the Android SDK.
On April 2, 2010, James Gosling left Oracle.
After some time Oracle also announced that Java run-time environments based on JDK 9 will no longer continue the browser plugin.
Java software runs on everything from laptops to data centres, game consoles to scientific super computers.
